Ivy Lee Method to Tackle Your To-Dos

Are you tired of feeling overwhelmed by your to-do list? Then it may be worth trying the Ivy Lee Method.

With some of my clients who get easily overwhelmed with everything going in their life, the Ivy Lee Method can work out very well because of its simplicity.

So, what exactly is the Ivy Lee Method?

The Ivy Lee Method is a simple way to manage your daily tasks, and was created by Ivy Lee, a productivity expert back in 1918 (yup, way back when). He shared it with Charles Schwab’s executive team at Bethlehem Steel who was so impressed by the results after 3 months that Charles ended up paying Ivy Lee $25,000 (which is like paying over $500,000 today).

Here's how you can use the Ivy Lee Method:

  • Step 1: At the end of each day, write down six most important tasks you need to do the next day.

  • Step 2: Prioritize these six tasks in order from most critical to least critical.

  • Step 3: When you start your day, work on the first task. DO NOT MOVE ON TO THE NEXT TASK until you finish the first one.

  • Step 4: Move on to the next task only after finishing the one before it.

  • Step 5: At the end of the day, move any unfinished tasks to your list for the next day. Re-prioritize if needed.

  • Step 6: Repeat

This method is effective because it keeps things simple and focused.

Here are some tips on how you can apply this:

  • Apps: Apps like Notion, Trello, Todoist, Apple Notes, Evernote, etc. can help you keep track of your tasks.

  • Time Blocking: Set aside specific times for each task.

  • Daily Review: Spend a few minutes at the end of each day reviewing what you did and planning for the next day.

  • Be Flexible: If something urgent comes up, adjust your list but stay focused on your priorities.

By following these simple steps, you can reduce stress, stay focused, and feel accomplished at the end of each day. Give it a try! Write down your six most important tasks for tomorrow and see how much more you get done!

At Tawn-Le, we believe in using time-tested methods to help you manage your energy and work better. The Ivy Lee Method can help you take control of your tasks and achieve more, one day at a time. Give it a try and watch your productivity soar!
